Perched on a gentle promontory above the river Gave d'Oloron, is the pretty medieval town of Sauveterre de Bearn. The picturesque Legend Bridge (Pont de La Légende) a historical monument, once played an important role in the defence of the town. There are also beautiful views of the Pyrenees from the terrace of St Andrew’s church. This fortified church built in the 12th and 13th centuries is worth visiting for its tympanum and carved capitals, as is the museum in the castle tower. There is a market every Saturday.
It is also possible to go canoeing, kayaking and fishing nearby.

Salies-de-Béarn is a picturesque spa town. Famous for its salt, it has natural thermal salt water baths, a casino and public gardens. The town with its Boar Fountain, and good choice of restaurants, has pretty, windy lanes with lovely half timbered houses, some of which near the river are on stilts. This makes it a charming destination with a chance to enjoy the benefits of a thermal spa treatment.
